In Defense Of CIA Interrogation Tactics

One of the controversies that presently is engulfing America regarding our intelligence gathering techniques is the CIA interrogation tactics. The CIA has been using various interrogation tactics on suspected terrorists that are actively plotting to commit attacks against both the United States and our allies. Democrats, especially radical liberals, have expressed outrage over what things the CIA will do in order to elicit information from enemy combatants. Since they are now in political power, they are focused on trying to demonize the agency and to reverse America’s policy on handling suspected terrorists.

What the CIA is doing is absolutely necessary to protect American lives. Waterboarding, sleep deprivation, and playing loud music, are all methods that our main intelligence agency has used to gather information. Many leftists say that these methods are akin to torture and that we should not be using them. Those people are simply weak. We need to be prepared to do whatever is necessary to protect this country from those individuals out there who are determined to destroy us. These interrogation methods are not torture. If you want to see torture, take a look at what the terrorists do to the kidnapped Americans in the Middle East. We, as a country, cannot worry about the sensitivities of terrorists or what other countries think of us when we gather information from them. Evidence shows, contrary to the argument that the CIA elicits false confessions, that the methods used have been effective in capturing other terrorists and preventing attacks that would have killed innocent people.

The problem with those opposed to gathering intelligence is that they have a bleeding heart. They want to close down Guantanamo Bay, cease CIA interrogation sessions, read terrorists their rights, and hold their trials in American courtrooms. I don’t even know where to being. We need to house them in Guantanamo Bay because it is a secure site and bringing them to the United States could put our citizens at risk. Find me one elected official in Washington willing to house the hundreds of terrorists in their home state or district. I suspect those bleeding hearts will keep quiet then. Terrorists do not have rights under our Constitution because they are not Americans. Reading terrorists their rights, would in essence officially give them rights that they do not have or should have. This is a dangerous precedent to set and cannot be done. Finally, we are in a war. Prisoners of war or enemy combatants are not entitled to a trial in the United States. They face military tribunals which is more appropriate given their method of capture and detention.

In the end, what the CIA interrogation tactics yield is vital to protecting this country and must be allowed to be continued. They are controlled questioning that cause no lasting harm to the terrorist. Records show success using this, so why stop what is working?
